Us OneFours wanted to do something to support the amazing #weneeddiversebooks campaign. Not only do we all think this campaign is massively important, several of us belong to marginalized groups and/or write books with marginalized main characters.
We’ve put together several prize packs of our diverse books for supporters of #weneeddiversebooks and its Diversify Your Shelves initiative. We’re giving away twelve books:
- Hardcovers of THE SECRET SIDE OF EMPTY by Maria Andreu, CAMINAR by Skila Brown, NO SURRENDER SOLDIER by Christine Kohler, and FAR FROM YOU by Tess Sharpe
- Paperbacks of GILDED by Christina Farley and THE EIGHTH GUARDIAN by Meredith McCardle
- Paperback or hardcover of GATES OF THREAD AND STONE by Lori M. Lee (to be sent in August)
- ARCs of OTHERBOUND by Corinne Duyvis, THE WALLED CITY by Ryan Graudin, PUSH GIRL by Chelsie Hill and Jessica Love, THE FIRE WISH by Amber Lough, and LIES WE TELL OURSELVES by Robin Talley
Our books and authors vary wildly in terms of genre, approach, and marginalized groups represented, so there’s something in here for everybody! Winners will also get swag–bookmarks, etc.–for several of the above books, plus for THE MISADVENTURES OF THE FAMILY FLETCHER by Dana Alison Levy and MIDNIGHT THIEF by Livia Blackburne.
One prize pack will go to a librarian, teacher, or other educator who needs diverse books to better serve the children and teenagers they work with. To win, participate in #weneeddiversebooks at any point during May 3rd or May 4th and explain why diverse books are important to your job/students/customers. (You may also alert us to #weneeddiversebooks Tweets you did on this topic previously.) The winner can choose their prize and select four titles from the above list.
A second prize pack will go to someone who participates in the Diversify Your Shelves initiative. This can mean: photos of the diverse books you bought this weekend; photos of the suggestion form you’re sending to your library; photos of the shelf talkers you wrote for your local bookstore; etc. Post your photo on Twitter or Tumblr on May 3rd or May 4th and tag it with #weneeddiversebooks. The winner can select four titles from the eight remaining books.
Let us know about your eligible Tweets/posts for the above prize packs by either tagging them #wndb in addition to the official #weneeddiversebooks hashtag, or by leaving a link to your Tweet/post as a comment on this blog post.
The final prize pack, consisting of the four remaining books, will go to someone who reblogs this post on Tumblr. Help get the word out!
Books and swag can be sent to any address within the United States–or multiple addresses, if you want to share your prizes. Most books will be signed and can be personalized on request. Winners will be contacted on Monday, May 5th.
(This giveaway was put together based on donations from the authors themselves, not anyone’s personal selection or recommendations.)

Yay! Was able to find a few good ones, though my local store’s selection was…poor, to say the least. My tweet w/pic: https://twitter.com/alisonrose711/status/462675563396603904
I tagged the posts of the books purchased for #DiversifyYourShelves with #wndb but am also linking them here. They all start with the same sentence in the caption, but each link is a separate book:
I also picked up a Kindle book that’s on some of the “upcoming diverse adult books” lists, but it was provided to me free of charge, so I’m not including it.
I shared my shelf and the new books I ordered. 🙂

This was such a fun event! It was amazing going through my local bookstore and finding amazing options.

It was pretty difficult finding diverse books in small New Zealand bookstores, but I managed to find one. Gonna get more Kindle books tonight!
Here’s my shelf of diverse books, not all are included as their on loan to friends but they’re some of my favorites I’ve read in the past couple years!! https://twitter.com/whimsicallyours/status/462685527028690944
My haul 🙂
